Dinosaur fantasies are really not my thing. However James Gurney is so good at recreating atmosphere and light that he can make a world with pterodactyl taxis look believable.
He paints as beautifully as Charles Avery draws, but his own fantasy is quite cheerful. Heroes include Alma-Tadema and the Hudson River School.
He also has good advice for aspiring visual artists, none of which involves getting an art degree.
